Claims That Armenia Will Hand Over The Border Village Of Jiliza To Georgia Are False - მითების დეტექტორი

On April 27-28, several Georgian media outlets (Mtavari; CNews Exclusive; Dedoplistskaro TV; Itv.ge; Flashnews), as well as Facebook accounts (1; 2), spread claims that after the completion of the Armenia-Georgia border demarcation, Armenia would return the village of Jiliza, located on the Georgian-Armenian border, to Georgia. Some media outlets circulated this claim alongside a statement by Armenia’s Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, according to which completing the border delimitation process with Georgia is on the agenda and agreements with Georgian partners already exist. Some posts also claimed that the parties had reached an agreement on completing border demarcation.

Using the text and the social media card from Mtavari’s Facebook post, identical claims were shared by other Facebook users (1; 2; 3; 4) and pages (1; 2).

The information that, within the framework of a border delimitation agreement between Georgia and Armenia, Armenia will hand over the village of Jiliza to Georgia is false. The same claim circulated in 2024 as well, and one of its original sources itself acknowledged that the information was unverified. The claim was also denied by the spokesperson of Armenia’s Prime Minister.
