The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has debunked a social media flyer that said the government had raised cocoa prices.
According to the regulatory body, the flyer claimed that Eric Opoku, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, had announced that cocoa farmers would receive 70% of the global market price.
In a statement on its Facebook page, COCOBOD asked the public and stakeholders to ignore the false information and only use official channels of communication to get up-to-date information on cocoa prices.
“Our attention has been drawn to a false flyer circulating on social media claiming that the Minister for Food and Agriculture has announced an increase in cocoa prices. This information is completely untrue,” the statement read.
“We urge our cherished stakeholders and the public to disregard this fake news and rely only on official communication from COCOBOD and the Ministry.”
