The second National Commission on Labour had recommended that the existing Labour Laws should be broadly grouped into four or five Labour Codes on functional basis. Consequently, the Code on Wages, 2019 is one of the four codes of the labour laws that has been enacted. The Code on Wages, 2019 is a step to advance equity and labour welfare while ensuring enterprise sustainability. It standardizes definitions of key terms and streamlines procedures, reducing ambiguity and ensuring faster, time bound justice for employers. The Code on Wages, 2019: Laws Subsumed
The Code on Wages, 2019, amalgamates 4 wages and payment related labour laws viz. The Payment of Wages Act, 1936, The Minimum Wages Act, 1948, The Payment of Bonus Act, 1965 and The Equal Remuneration Act, 1976.
