Conagra Shakes Off False-Ad Suits Over PFAS in Microwave Popcorn - Bloomberg Law

Conagra Brands Inc. defeated two proposed class suits alleging it misleadingly portrays Orville Redenbacher’s and Angie’s BOOMCHICKAPOP microwave popcorn as made with “natural” and “real” ingredients when the popcorn has PFAS that’s seeped in from the bags.

Reasonable consumers wouldn’t be deceived by the labeling because they wouldn’t consider migratory chemicals to be food “ingredients,” the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois said in a Wednesday opinion covering both cases.

The suits were part of a wave of litigation alleging various products expose consumers to perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, which are associated with numerous health concerns.
