Concern over Glasgow school violence in wake of Adolescence show - HeraldScotland

Children as young as six and seven are verbally and physically assaulting teachers in Glasgow schools — as educators struggle to access support to cope with the growing problem, a whistleblower has told The Herald.

The Netflix drama Adolescence, which features Stephen Graham and newcomer Owen Cooper, focuses on a 13-year-old boy who is accused of murdering his female classmate. One of the most-watched shows of 2025, the series has sparked a national conversation over violence and misogyny in our secondary schools.

A whistleblower says the problems depicted in Adolescence extends to primary schools as well.

“I’ve been a primary school teacher for 20 years, and we face violence on a daily basis”, our source, who asked to remain anonymous over fears of retaliation, said.

“I’ve had two bad wrist injuries that put me into hospital and have been concussed twice.

“You’re living with that threat every day and the biggest frustration for me is the normalization that is happening,” she added.

“I think that’s what is coming out with the Adolescence show. In our primary school setting, we can pinpoint where children will wind up, you know, but nobody listens.

“You’re expected to put up with threatening behaviour. There’s a lot of children making threats to you, things like ‘Do this or else’, ‘I’ll get you here’, ‘I’ll get you in the corner’, but when you when you report that, because nobody has actually touched you or nobody has actually done anything to you, it’s never taken...
