Connecticut dentist settles for $150,000 after her alleged False Claims Act violations - fox61.com

Norwalk dentist Nazneen Jaffri, DDS, resolved allegations she violated state/federal False Claims Act statutes by illegally paying a “patient recruiting” company.

HARTFORD, Conn. — Norwalk dentist Nazneen Jaffri, DDS, has reportedly agreed to a $150,000 settlement to resolve allegations she violated state and Federal False Claims Act statutes.

In an announcement Friday, Connecticut Attorney General William Tong said that Jaffri allegedly paid prohibited fees to a “patient recruiting company.”

Also on Friday, the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut issued a judgement against Jaffri for the outstanding balance of the $150,000 settlement.

Jaffri was enrolled in the Connecticut Medical Assistance Program, or CMAP, which the Connecticut Medicaid program is part of.

Between Jan. 1, 2019, and April 24, 2021, Jaffri allegedly paid a third-party recruiting company $116 for every Connecticut Medicaid patient it referred to her, whenever a patient was given dental services over and about routine preventative care. Tong said this included dental cleanings and exams.

Both the state and federal government argue that the alleged behavior is made illegal by a federal anti-kickback statute, the CMAP provider agreement and the Connecticut Dental Health Partnership provider manual.

Tong notes this is the fifth settlement stemming from ongoing joint civil investigations into tainted kickbacks allegedly given to third-party recruiting companies who referred Connecticut Medicaid...
