STAMFORD, Conn. — A Connecticut physiatrist and her practice have paid $427,129 to the federal government to resolve allegations that they submitted false claims to the Medicare program, which resulted in them receiving overpayments.
According to a release from the Interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut, the Stamford-based practice Pain Management, LLC, and its owner, Halina Snowball, M.D., have entered into a civil agreement with the federal government and paid the sum.
A physiatrist is a doctor who manages conditions that affect patients’ skeletal and nervous systems. They use nonsurgical treatment options such as injections and nerve stimulators to improve movement and functionality.
Snowball is a physiatrist licensed to practice medicine and is the sole owner of Pain Management, LLC. The allegations against her and her practice stemmed from improper billing for office visits, known also as evaluation and management services, or E&M services.
The government alleged that between April 2017 and November 2019, Snowball and Pain Management, LLC submitted or caused to be submitted improper claims to Medicare for E&M services.
