Connecticut woman sentenced for defrauding Medicaid with false service claims - fox61.com

HARTFORD, Conn. — A Connecticut woman was sentenced in Hartford Superior Court on Tuesday for defrauding the state’s Medicaid program by submitting false claims for services she never performed.

Soraya Sawicki, 64, of Avon, received an 18-month prison sentence with five years of conditional discharge. She is also forbidden from participating as provider in the Medicaid program, according to a release from the state Division of Criminal Justice.

Prosecutors say that Sawicki billed Medicaid for $27,068 of services that were never provided. They added that she has paid full restitution.

Prior to her sentencing, Sawicki pleaded guilty to Health Insurance Fraud, which is a class B felony in Connecticut.

An investigation led by inspectors with the Chief State’s Attorney’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit revealed that between September 2019 and June 2021, Sawicki was working as licensed clinical social worker and the owner of Infinity Integrated Counseling and Spa Services, LLC, in Avon.

During this time, prosecutors say that Sawicki billed the program for services she never provided.

After being found guilty of a program-related felony, Sawicki is subject to mandatory exclusion as a health care provider to certain federally funded health programs pursuant to federal and state laws and regulators, according to DCJ.
