Attorney General Ken Paxton had come to an agreement with four of his former aides who he fired after they accused him of corruption.

The news broke on Feb. 10: Paxton's office would settle the whistleblowers' lawsuit for $3.3 million, using public money to fund the payout. The deal depended on Texas lawmakers, who gather in Austin every two years to write the state budget.
