COSHOCTON The City of Coshocton is seeking state funding for a Second Street corridor signal enhancement project.
Coshocton City Council at its last meeting approved a resolution giving Safety Service Director Max Crown authority to apply to the Small Cities Congestion Mitigation Program through the Ohio Department of Transportation. The program is for cities with a population from 5,000 to 24,999 residents.
The program is providing one time funding for projects through carbon reduction funding that are shown to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The signal project has been determined to fit requirements.
The project is estimated at $500,000 with the city to provide a 20% match of actual cost for construction and construction engineering while also footing total cost for design, right-of-way and environmental elements. The estimated local cost is $100,000. The city must also provide adequate maintenance for the project once completed. Crown said funding wouldn't be available until 2027 to 2028.
The city received a similar $500,000 Small City Safety Grant through the Ohio Department of Transportation for upgrades of traffic control devices in 2020. Crown said due to pricing, they had to cut replacement of two traffic lights along Second Street part of original plans.
