Da Nang woman fined for false claim of being drugged, sparking mass panic - VietNamNet

On February 20, the Internal Political Security Division of Da Nang Police issued an administrative fine of 7.5 million VND ($300) to H.K.L., a 21-year-old resident of Hoa Minh Ward, Lien Chieu District, for spreading false information online.

On February 17, L. posted a story titled "Warning: I was drugged tonight - so terrifying!" on social media, claiming that on the evening of February 16, a stranger had approached her on Vo Van Kiet Street, Son Tra District, asking for a ride on her motorbike.

According to L., she refused but helped the man book a ride through a mobile app. Shortly after, she allegedly felt dizzy and suspected she had been drugged. She claimed to have rushed into a nearby restaurant, where locals helped take her to the hospital.

Her post quickly went viral, attracting over 11,000 likes, 10,000 comments, and 28,000 shares, sparking widespread concern in Da Nang.

Following an investigation, police identified and questioned the so-called "stranger" in the story. The individual confirmed that no drugging incident had occurred.

Da Nang authorities have urged the public to verify information before sharing content on social media. They also advised citizens to report any suspected criminal activities to the police rather than spreading unverified claims that may cause unnecessary alarm.
