Happy Sunday, folks!
I don’t know about you, but after being snowed (more like iced) in on several occasions the last few weeks, I’m crossing my fingers the last of the winter weather is behind us and there’s nothing but clear, sunny skies in our future here in Michigan... And yet, as a lifelong resident of the mitten state who’s experienced her fair share of unpredictable weather, I don’t know how confident I am about that.
You know who is probably feeling confident? Michigan Democrats, who neared the finish line on some of their top legislative goals during another marathon week in the state legislature.
Let’s take a second to rewind and see just what took place this past week in Michigan politics:
Michigan House votes to repeal ‘right-to-work’ amid partisan uproar
Michigan’s decade-old “right-to-work” law jolted closer to death Wednesday after the House voted to repeal the controversial law along party lines.
“Right-to-work,” as it’s known, is a policy that prevents union contracts from requiring the payment of dues to a union as a requirement of employment in a unionized workplace. Employees who decline to join the union, then, receive the benefits negotiated by the union without having to pay for membership.
The House also passed legislation that would restore the state’s practice of paying union wages on all state projects, a policy known as prevailing wage.
