The South Carolina Attorney General’s Office announced on Wednesday that 45-year-old Stephanie Lovette was arrested and charged with obtaining signature or property under false pretenses and presenting false claims for insurance payment.
An investigation done by the Vulnerable Adults and Medicaid Provider Fraud unit found that from Jan. 2021 to Nov. 2024, Lovette allegedly submitted false claims for payments to the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees the state’s Medicaid program.
Investigators said Lovette submitted false mileage reimbursement claims for non-emergency medical transportation for a Medicaid beneficiary but did not provide the services.
The AG’s office stated that the claims resulted in a loss of over $10,000 for the South Carolina Medicaid program.
If convicted, Lovette could face up to 20 years in prison on both charges.
The case will be prosecuted by the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office.
