Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: An offence was registered against Ranjit Kasale, a dismissed sub-inspector from Beed, for allegedly defaming the Election Commission (EC), among other charges.
Kasale had released a video on social media claiming he was posted at the location where the electronic voting machines (EVMs) were stored in a strong room after polling and that he was later removed from duty there. He further alleged this removal was intended to enable tampering with the EVMs, and he was offered Rs 10 lakh for allowing poll rigging.
Citing an official inquiry report by the Beed district collector and superintendent of police, the EC on Sunday said Kasale was not on election duty during the Maharashtra assembly polls. "The allegations are aimed at disturbing public peace and tranquillity, and inciting people for violence against the state. The district election officer directed action against Kasale," the poll panel said in a post on X.
Beed district collector Avinash Pathak called for an inquiry by the superintendent of police in a matter related to Kasale. The official inquiry revealed that Kasale was not assigned any poll-related duty in the Parli assembly constituency, including during the polling process, for strong room security, or vote counting arrangements. During the election period, Kasale was posted at the Beed cyberpolice station, the inquiry revealed.
