The Dr. Andrew Huff story is difficult. It is difficult because his particular world is unfathomable to most Americans. I get it to some degree as one of my daughters makes her living in a Huff parallel world in academia, in constant chase for grant money to fund her medical research. But that world is really out there to most of us, so it is difficult to follow Huff’s story, get past the confusing context, the constant on and off ramps, so we can clearly see the road. I’m going to try, dear reader, to get past all the confusion and highlight the real story, the facts. This story is epic and well worth this effort.
Dr. Andrew Huff, PhD, MS, is an epidemiologist, a kind of medical statistician. He develops computer programs that attempt to model the spread of disease taking into consideration all kinds of factors; how it spreads, severity of infection, infection of non-human hosts (animals), population mobility, demographics, climate, etc. This is complicated stuff.
Pre-pandemic, he worked for Eco-Health Alliance (EHA) directly under CEO Peter Daszak as a top researcher and as the executive in charge of data modeling. Much of the research that EHA did was data collection, essentially surveys, and modeling of that survey data.
