DynCorp settles DOJ False Claims lawsuit from 2016 - The Business Journals

The 9-year-old lawsuit involves a contract to train and supply Iraqi police during the Iraq War two decades ago.

DynCorp International Inc., the Northern Virginia government contractor acquired by Amentum nearly five years ago, has agreed to settle Department of Justice allegations it overcharged the government during the Iraq War.

The company will pay $21 million to settle the suit without admitting wrongdoing, according to a DOJ news release Wednesday. The total includes more than $9 million in restitution, per the settlement, which was signed Wednesday by DynCorp President Mark Esposito.

The department filed the False Claims Act lawsuit in 2016, alleging a DynCorp subcontractor charged inflated rates under a State Department contract and DynCorp passed the inflated charges onto the government.

The case alleged DynCorp was aware the charges were inflated and uncompetitive with rates in Iraq but still billed the government.

The State contract, dubbed CIVPOL, was awarded in 2004 and involved training, equipping and supporting a new civilian police force in Iraq.

When the case was originally filed, DynCorp CFO Bill Kansky said the company would “vigorously” defend itself.
