Elon Musk’s 28 False Claims Get 825.2 Million Views

During a press event in the Oval Office on Feb. 11, 2025, Elon Musk responded to a reporter’s question about his promotion of the false claim that the U.S. paid $50 million for condoms in Gaza by stating, “Some of the things that I say will be incorrect, and should be corrected.”
Indeed, many of the claims by Musk have already been corrected, though not necessarily by Musk or his colleagues. (As of Feb. 17, the White House has not acknowledged that the claim that the U.S. paid $50 million for condoms for Gaza was incorrect, and the White House Press Office did not respond to NewsGuard’s request for comment.)
NewsGuard reviewed claims spread by Musk since he bought Twitter (now X) in October 2022. Our analysts documented 28 claims on significant topics in the news either generated or boosted by Musk on his platform that our analysts have determined are false because they have been disproved, denied by reliable sources, or lack any factual basis.
