The former board president in the Norwin School District has sued a rival board member who had been asked to resign because of his calls for armed combat to keep former President Donald Trump in power, saying the Trump-supporting member retaliated against him and his wife by making false allegations that they are violent and threatening.
Brian Carlton, the former board president, and his wife, Margaret Carlton, a teacher in the district, filed the suit in federal court Monday against board member Robert Wayman and the Westmoreland County Republican Committee.
Mr. Wayman, a retired teacher, is an elected official with the committee.
In 2020, Mr. Carlton and three other board members asked Mr. Wayman to resign over Facebook postings on "Silent Majority 15642," a private conservative chat group that references the ZIP code for Irwin and North Huntingdon, which Norwin serves.
Mr. Wayman, who is also a former mayor of Irwin, had written on the site calling for "armed combat" if Mr. Trump didn't get re-elected, the suit says. He referred to former state Health Secretary Rachel Levine, who is a transgender woman, as "it." And he posted that "Gold Star of David coming to the mask wearers sooner than they realize" — a reference to the Star of David that the Nazis forced Jews to wear during World War II to identify them for extermination.
Mr. Wayman also said Democrats had done more to damage the U.S. than the Japanese and “German Democrats” in World War II.
