Ex-prosecutor returns to law firm Crowell after brief Quinn Emanuel ... - Reuters

Nov 9 (Reuters) - U.S. law firm Crowell & Moring said Thursday it has re-hired Michael Shaheen, seven months after he left the firm to help lead a new False Claims Act practice at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan.

Shaheen has rejoined Crowell's health care group as a partner in its Washington, D.C., office, the firm said. He will continue to focus on False Claims Act cases and healthcare fraud and abuse.

"I didn’t really realize or appreciate how good of a place this is and how good I had it," Shaheen said. He cited the ability to consult with colleagues in Crowell's regulatory healthcare practice such as Troy Barsky and Jodi Daniel.

"I can do an investigation, but having someone to talk to -- someone who basically wrote the regs that are at issue is really helpful," Shaheen said.

A Quinn Emanuel spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Shaheen joined Quinn Emanuel in April after more than two years at Crowell.

Before joining Crowell in 2020, Shaheen spent more than six years at the Justice Department, working on civil healthcare and mortgage fraud cases and leading dozens of False Claims Act and Anti-Kickback Statute investigations.

Shaheen declined to identify clients, but he said his clients typically include large insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, hospital systems and even individual doctors.

He said he anticipates working with the same clients now that he is back at Crowell.
