Fact Check-Al Jazeera did not release clip reporting that Ukrainian fans were arrested in Qatar for defacing World Cup posters with Nazi symbols - Reuters

Qatar’s state-owned broadcaster Al Jazeera did not release a clip reporting that Ukrainian fans had been arrested during the World Cup for “spreading Nazi symbols” in Doha. No such clip was published and a spokesperson for the outlet confirmed to Reuters that the report was fabricated.

The video uses Al Jazeera typography with the network’s logo viewable to the top left corner.

Text across the clip claims that three drunk Ukrainian fans were arrested in the country’s capital after adding Nazi symbology to posters featuring the Qatar World Cup mascot, La’eeb.

A spokesperson for Al Jazeera told Reuters: “A video on social media attributed to Al Jazeera has been circulating referring to the arrest of Ukrainian fans during the FIFA World Cup. The video in question is completely fake and Al Jazeera has never published any news related to this story.”

The outlet also released a statement via its Twitter account confirming that no such report was published (here).

A Twitter advanced search did not reveal any such clip published via Al Jazeera’s English edition official Twitter accounts (@AJEnglish and @AJENews) (archive.ph/wip/uYGWR).

No such clip can be found when examining Al Jazeera English Instagram and Facebook accounts (here), (www.facebook.com/aljazeera).

A search through Al Jazeera’s website did not find any relevant report (archive.ph/wip/6Peqb).
