Fact Check-Claims Anheuser-Busch CEO apologized for company's ... - Reuters

A spokesperson for brewing company Anheuser-Busch told Reuters that online claims its CEO apologized for its collaboration with social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney are false. The claims arose amid conservative backlash to the company’s Bud Light collaboration with Mulvaney, a transgender TikToker, and likely stem from a satirical article.

Examples of the claim can be viewed (here), (here) and (here). “I can confirm that these statements are inaccurate and there is no truth to them,” a spokesperson for Anheuser Busch told Reuters in an email.

Reuters also could not find any credible news outlet reporting that the CEO of the company had apologized for the partnership.

Mulvaney’s sponsorship of Bud Light, a brand owned by Anheuser-Busch, has triggered transphobic commentary and conservative backlash. A Reuters video report can be seen (here). The claim that the company apologized appears to have originated from a satirical website called Dunning-Kruger-Times (here). The website identifies itself as part of a network of satire websites called “America’s last line of Defense” (here). The satirical article begins by attributing the apology to a fictional company CEO: “Augustus Anheuser III says he had no idea the marketing department at Anheuser Busch approved a campaign that promoted LGBTQ behaviors and lifestyles. As the company’s current CEO, he issued a formal apology to his customers.”
