A 23-second video, purportedly showing Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge getting up from his chair with Lok Sabha leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi behind him, has gone viral across social media platforms. According to the users, Kharge was insulted by Gandhi, who forced him to get up from his seat. “Rahul Gandhi arrives late at a function when Antonia Maino and Kharge are already seated onstage. Without the slightest respect for age or designation, Mallikarjun Kharge is asked to vacate the seat and move elsewhere. Kharge leaves in a huff,” read an X post, sharing the video.

Newschecker ran a reverse image search of keyframes, which led us to this Instagram video by the Indian Youth Congress, dated January 15, 2025, hailing Gandhi’s respect towards Kharge. “This is the culture of Congress!! This relationship between Congress President Mr. Mallikarjun Kharge and leader of opposition Mr. @rahulgandhi ji is beyond words!,” read the post in Hindi.
