A viral image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi having food and a caption stating that RTI has revealed that the cost for his single day’s meals is Rs 41,579, is doing rounds on social media. Many users are sharing posts with such claims.

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral image and found the claims to be false.
We started our investigation by running a Google Keyword Search about said information. Our search provided us with no results backing the viral claim. We then proceeded to look for the overall daily expense of PM Modi on his meals and found many links informing about the same.
An August 31, 2022, news article titled: PM Modi Daily Expenses: पीएम नरेंदर मोदी के बारे में वे बातें जो शायद आप नहीं जानते होंगे, published on the website of Navbharat Times informs us that someone asked this question to Modi through an RTI, and got the response from the Centre that he bears all the expenses for his daily meals and nothing is paid for through the government.
We found similar news articles on the websites of other Indian media houses as well. Times Now Hindi and Dainik Jagaran posted the information on their websites on August 31, 2022, and August 30, 2022, respectively.
