Fact check: No, McDonald's doesn't serve 'human meat' - USA TODAY

The claim: McDonald's closed in three countries for serving human meat; worldwide closures soon

Health experts have long been concerned about the health impact of food from McDonald's. But a post on social media claims the fast food chain's ingredients are more nefarious than expected.

"BOOM McDonalds closed n 3 countries for serving human meat...!!!" reads a Dec. 27 Facebook post. "Worldwide closure soon."

The post received more than 100 reactions and shares in two days.

But it's not true. The false claim that human meat is served by McDonald's has circulated online since 2014, when it was first shared by a satire site. McDonald's debunked the claim on its website.

USA TODAY reached out to the Facebook user who shared the claim for comment.

No human meat in McDonald's' food

In response to a question in the "Your Right to Know" section of its website, McDonald's debunked the claim.

"We do not have any human meat in our burgers," the fast food company's answer reads. "We would like to assure you that we only use 100% pure, Halal beef and chicken in our food. That's it!"

The answer also says that McDonald's sources its beef from Brazil Foods in Abu Dhabi and chicken from McFood in Malaysia.
