FACT CHECK: Post falsely claims The Hague is ‘blocking’ Duterte release - Rappler

Why we fact-checked this: The claim was posted on Facebook on April 16 and has garnered over 3,000 reactions, 207 comments, and 147 shares as of writing.

The post reads, “I-re release na ng ICC si Tatay D. Mahina ang kaso at meron ng nag piyansa sa kanya. Ang problema, ayaw ng Hague dahil babagsak uli tourism nila.”

(Tatay D will be released by the ICC. His case is weak and someone has already posted bail. The problem is that The Hague doesn’t want to because their tourism will decline again.)

While the post was largely met with laugh reactions, a number of commenters appear to take the claim seriously.

One comment read: “Ginawang tourist attraction ng ICC ang aming Pangulo!” (They made our president a tourist attraction!)

Another wrote: “Dahil sa mga Pinoy na dumalaw kay Tatay Digong, dumami turista sa Hague.” (Because of the Filipinos who visited Tatay Digong, tourism in The Hague increased.)

The facts: The claim is false. There are no reports from credible news outlets or government sources about someone posting bail for the former president or that the ICC was supposedly set to release Duterte.
