CLAIM: Marcos recovered jewellery stolen by the Aquinos

A YouTube reaction video uploaded by channel “AI TOO KAYE” falsely claimed that the Marcos family had recovered its ‘stolen’ jewellery from the Aquinos. The video, which was originally uploaded by “Pinas News Insider” channel, was previously debunked by multiple fact-checking news sites. A version of this false claim was also debunked by PressOnePH.
The video cited several claims regarding the Aquino family’s alleged theft of jewelry owned by the Marcos family. The claim was based on a photo showing Kris Aquino appearing in a high society magazine wearing what was alleged as Imelda Marcos jewelry. The post claimed that several pieces of Marcos jewelry from the government’s inventory had disappeared since the late dictator Ferdinand E. Marcos was overthrown. There was also an interview from a senior citizen saying Kris Aquino wore Imelda Marcos’s necklace during an event.
There is no truth to these claims. According to the report of The New York Times in March 1986, the United States Customs confiscated the jewelry with an estimated value of $5 million to $10 million. These were returned later to the Philippines.
Kris Aquino also refuted the claims in a now-deleted October 2016 Instagram post, clarifying that the necklace she wore during the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation was from the Italian luxury brand Bottega Veneta.
