False claims of India placing an urgent order on 4 Rafale jets after losses against Pakistan shared - dfrac.org

An account on X ‘TacticalTribun’ posted a claim on 11 August 2025. The user claimed, “India is looking to place an urgent order of 4 Rafale jets from France after losses against Pakistan.” The post has more than 13k views, 780 likes and almost 120 reposts.

Another account named ‘Cptn_101’ claimed “India placed an urgent order for 04 Rafale aircraft from France.”

Fact Check

The DFRAC team searched the viral claim on the internet and found it to be misleading. We searched for the keywords from the viral statement on the internet and came across an article in ‘The Times of India’. The article was published on 11 August 2025. The headline says “After Operation Sindoor, IAF seeks more Rafales to stem depletion of fighter squadrons”. The article informs that IAF has strongly pitched for a government-to-government deal with France to procure more Rafale fighters under its long-pending project to acquire 114 multi-role fighter aircraft (MRFA), in which the bulk of the jets are supposed to be manufactured domestically with foreign collaboration.

Another report by ‘Times Now’ published on 11 August 2025 says the Indian Air Force has strongly pitched for a government-to-government deal with France to procure more 4.5-generation fighter jets under its long-pending project to acquire 114 multi-role fighter aircraft (MRFA). Under the project, a bulk of the jets are supposed to be manufactured domestically with foreign collaboration.
