A scene from an apocalypse movie shot in Birmingham is being circulated across the internet as part of a fake claim the Ukraine war is being staged. False claims the crisis in Ukraine is a hoax are going viral.
One scene being circulated by people in a bid to convince others there is no war in Ukraine is from a Birmingham-shot movie. The scene shows a director asking crowds to run and scream in Victoria Square.
Web users have circulated it claiming it was shot in Ukraine, suggesting the harrowing scenes in the country are being fabricated by the West. But the director of the Birmingham film has now hit out.
The video was actually shot in Birmingham's Victoria Square in 2013. It was filmed as part of the film Invasion Planet Earth.
On Twitter, director Simon Cox fumed: "Thanks for sharing the truth about this - I'm the director of the film and was shocked to see my footage being used like this."
He replied to a BBC World tweet from Shayan Sardarizadeh. Mr Sardarizadeh wrote: "This video has racked up hundreds of thouands of views on multiple platforms as evidence the Ukraine war is a "hoax made by crisis actors". A director asks a crowd to run and scream in fear. But there are two problems: There's a British union flag visible, and it's from 2013."
