FCPS Superintendent Demetrus Liggins files whistleblower complaint, alleges retaliation by school board - WKYT

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - Fayette County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Demetrus Liggins has filed a formal whistleblower-reprisal complaint with the Kentucky Office of Education Accountability, accusing the school board of retaliating against him.

Liggins was placed on paid administrative leave earlier this month, after sending an email to school board chair Tyler Murphy requesting a separation between himself and the board. In an email between Liggins and Murphy hours later, Liggins requested the meeting be cancelled as he rescinded his request. The district has declined to comment exactly why Liggins was placed on administrative leave. Dr. Bill Bradford was named acting superintendent.

In the complaint, Liggins claims he was placed on indefinite paid administrative leave about a week after he raised concerns about possible misuse of public funds, unauthorized remote work and weak attendance controls within Fayette County Public Schools.

Liggins alleges the board knew he had not resigned but still met behind closed doors, removed him and installed an acting superintendent before ordering an investigation into him.

What Liggins says he reported

Liggins said his protected disclosures began on or about June 3, 2026, after Bradford sent him a written account of a meeting involving FCPS employee and Kentucky Rep. Adrielle Camuel.
