FID denounces fake social media post about Holness - Jamaica Gleaner

The Financial Investigations Division (FID) has denounced what it says is a fabricated story currently circulating on social media, which falsely claims that it has ruled that Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness be charged for breaches of the Proceeds of Crime Act and other corruption-related offences.

In a release today, the FID described the claims as “false, baseless, and malicious,” stating that the department “has issued no such ruling, announcement, or statement.”

According to the agency, as a law enforcement body within the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, it operates strictly within the laws of Jamaica.

“All investigations are conducted in keeping with established protocols, and any public communication regarding charges or proceedings is made formally and through legitimate channels,” the FID said.

The agency is urging members of the public to exercise caution when sharing unverified information from unreliable sources.

“Spreading misinformation not only undermines the reputation of individuals and institutions, but it can also erode public trust in Jamaica’s justice system,” the FID added.

The FID noted that official updates on matters under investigation are provided directly by the department through its website www.fid.gov.jm official social media pages, or via reputable news outlets.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to “combating financial crimes, ensuring accountability, and protecting Jamaica’s financial system in the interest of all citizens.”...
