Five individuals remanded in RM27mil fake claims case - The Star Online

KUALA LUMPUR: Five individuals have been remanded in connection with false claims amounting to more than RM27mil for a training programme related to digital technology.

Sources said Putrajaya Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin issued the three-day remand order against the suspects, aged between 37 and 50 here on Wednesday (Sept 21).

The five, including a woman, were arrested at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya at 8.30pm on Tuesday (Sept 20) whey they turned up to give their statements.

"The suspects are believed to be involved in the submission of false claims for a training programme related to digital technology provided to a government agency although the training was not conducted.

"The case is believed to involve two companies which have been paid RM19,599,682 and RM7,581,878 for the training programme from 2016 to 2020," a source said.

MACC special operations division senior director Datuk Tan Kang Sai confirmed the arrests and said the case was being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
