Florence woman accused of filing fake Medicare, Medicaid claims - SCNow
A federal grand jury indicted Tina Marie Armstrong, 67, on 11 counts of health care fraud and three counts of aggravated identity theft. Her indictment was announced Monday.
Armstrong operated Safe at Home Medical Equipment and Supplies LLC in Dillon County.
She’s accused of using her business to submit $195,981.55 in false and fraudulent claims to Medicaid and Medicare between January 2021 to January 2024.
She was paid $104,577.74 of the allegedly false claims she filed.
In some cases, Armstrong allegedly submitted claims after beneficiaries had died and for terms when her business had already been paid, according to her superseding indictment.
The Attorney General’s Office says some of the false claims concerned equipment that was no longer in service, never delivered or that had not been authorized by a physician.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Winston Holliday is prosecuting the case.
Armstrong’s charges were part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s 2025 National Health Care Fraud Takedown.
During the takedown, 324 people were charged for their alleged participation in health care fraud and illegal drug diversion schemes, according to the USAGO in South Carolina.
In total, the USAGO claims that over $14.6 billion in alleged false billings were made and over 15 million pills were illegally diverted.
In connection with the takedown, the federal government seized over $245 million in cash, luxury and other assets.
