Fourth Estates documentary full of false claims, lack of understanding of our operations — SML Ghana - Modern Ghana

Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) has denied allegations of irregularities made in an investigative documentary by media outlet Fourth Estate titled “The GHS3 billion lie and the billion dollar contract”.

In a statement cited today Wednesday, December 20, SML described the documentary of containing "a set of misrepresentations, false claims, and a general lack of understanding" of the company's operations.

The Fourth Estate documentary raised questions about a multi-million cedi contract awarded to SML by the Ghanaian government.

It alleged SML receives large monthly payments of up to GH24 million despite having no experience in the services provided.

Responding to the claims, SML said "We challenge Fourth Estate to produce any contract anywhere that is for a 10-year period. The 5th PPA Board at its 46th Board meeting in a letter referenced e PPA/CEO/09/2286/23 approved a contract duration of five (5) years."

The company also refuted allegations it takes $100 million annually from the contract, saying "The $100 million per year payment to SML that has been alleged is purely a figment of the author's imagination and not factual."

SML maintained its work in the downstream petroleum sector has helped boost reported volumes and revenues.
