Frisco Physician Agrees to Pay $3.5 Million for COVID-19 Lab Scheme - D Magazine

Frisco physician Dr. Samad Khan has agreed to pay $3.5 million to resolve allegations that he knowingly submitted or caused the submission of false claims to the federal government connected to his clinic, SK Primary Care.

Federal prosecutors alleged that Frisco-based SK Primary Care submitted claims to the Health Resources & Services Administration COVID-19 Claims Reimbursement to Health Care Providers and Facilities for Testing, Treatment, and Vaccine Administration for the Uninsured Program, also known as the Uninsured Program for services that the clinic never performed. The uninsured program was a COVID-era initiative of the Department of Health and Human Services that reimbursed providers for COVID-19 testing, treatment, and administration of vaccines to uninsured individuals.

The resources committed to stopping the spread of COVID-19 made for fertile ground for fraudsters, especially in North Texas. D CEO Healthcare investigated several local labs that billed Medicare patients for COVID-19 tests that the patients had never ordered. When we visited the locations of these alleged labs, they were either abandoned or appeared to have never existed.

Court documents allege that Khan initiated false claims for the uninsured program by billing evaluation and management services that were not performed.
