A researcher faced discrimination and victimisation at work over her belief that men cannot become women, a tribunal has ruled.
The landmark employment law decision today means that Maya Forstater — who thanked JK Rowling “for standing by me in the darkest of days” — could receive tens of thousands of pounds in damages after she was sacked from her role at the London office of a US think tank.
Rowling tweeted after the ruling: “Every woman who’s been harassed, silenced, bullied or lost employment because of her gender-critical beliefs is freer and safer today, thanks to the warrior that is [Forstater]”.
In April Forstater, 48, attended a Sunday lunch organised by Rowling at the River Cafe in west London.
