A lawsuit filed in Delaware Superior Court claims Hertz Corp. has wrongfully reported thousands of its rental cars as stolen, resulting in its customers being arrested, prosecuted or jailed.
Attorneys with Farnan, Francis Alexander and Susman Godfrey filed a 154-page complaint July 14 on behalf of 47 plaintiffs residing in 14 states. They claim Hertz, based in Estero, Florida, has for years been intentionally cancelling rental extensions, renting out cars already incorrectly reported as stolen, and wrongly asserting customers haven’t paid.
