Law enforcement members are to be commended for patiently resolving the Dec. 12 standoff at the Snohomish County Courthouse peacefully.

This event could have easily escalated into violence, resulting in injury or death to the suspect and/or law enforcement personnel.

We can all be grateful for the restraint, de-escalation and negotiating skills that were used to resolve the standoff without resorting to violence.
