Google denies recent social media claims about major Gmail security warning - WGAL

Google has released a statement on its blog denying claims of a major Gmail security warning, stating that these claims are false and encouraging users to use passkeys for better security.

"Several inaccurate claims surfaced recently that incorrectly stated that we issued a broad warning to all Gmail users about a major Gmail security issue. This is entirely false," Google said.

Google also encouraged its users to use a passkey, which allows sign-in with a fingerprint or a face scan.

For those who still use traditional passwords, the 8 On Your Side team has provided tips:

  • Make your password longer.
  • Use random combinations, avoiding personal information.
  • Include numbers and symbols.
  • Ensure passwords are unique to prevent hackers from accessing multiple accounts.
