WASHINGTON (TNND) — GOP lawmakers said they believe former CIA Director John Brennan should be indicted for making false statements to Congress regarding the false Steele dossier that was used during the Russia collusion case.
Brennan has been referred to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for criminal prosecution as the federal investigation continues with former top-level Obama administration officials.
Retired veteran FBI special agent in charge Jody Weis said Brennan claimed the CIA wasn’t involved. Weis added that Brennan said the first time he saw the dossier was after the election.
However, the Committee found out this was not correct,” Weis said, as Brennan appeared before the House Judiciary Committee in 2023. “Brennan personally received and analyzed that dossier pre-election. Brennan claimed that the CIA was very much opposed to including the dossier in the intelligence community assessment, or ICA, on Russian interference. However, the Committee found that Brennan actually overruled senior CIA analysts’ objections to use it.”
In fact, said Weis, they discovered an email that noted “my bottom line is that I believe that the information warrants inclusion in the report.”
Weis said when the analysts pushed back, Brennan replied, “yes, but doesn’t it ring true.”
