A group who secretly filmed a sexual encounter with a monk, attempted to extort a settlement by threatening him with the footage, and when their plan fell through, falsely accused the monk of sexual assault has been referred to trial.
The Criminal Division 1 of the Changwon District Prosecutors’ Office Tongyeong Branch (Chief Han Gang-il) announced on the 10th that they have indicted Ms. A, a woman in her 50s, on charges of false accusation, and Mr. B, a man in his 60s, on charges of abetting false accusations.
According to the prosecution, Ms. A is suspected of filing a false report in July 2025, claiming that she was sexually assaulted twice by Mr. C, a monk in his 60s at a temple in Goseong County, South Gyeongsang Province, whom she had known. Mr. B is suspected of instructing Ms. A to file this false report.
The prosecution’s investigation revealed that Ms. A and Mr. B, who were former lovers, initially conspired that if Ms. A had a sexual encounter with Mr. C, Mr. B would secretly film it and then use the footage to blackmail Mr. C into paying tens of millions of won in settlement money.
However, their plan did not go as intended. The prosecution determined that Ms. A and Mr. B then fabricated a criminal complaint, falsely claiming that Mr. C had sexually assaulted Ms. A.
