PIDA came into effect for school districts in 2023
The Delta School District, at its Dec. 9th meeting, released its second whistleblower report for the public.
The 2024/25 Public Interest Disclosure Annual Report is a requirement for all school districts.
The legislation came into effect for school districts in 2023.
The Public Interest Disclosure Act (PIDA) provides a framework and whistleblower protection for public sector employees for reporting “serious wrongdoing” and has specific definitions. Disclosure must meet criteria under PIDA before they are investigated.
If a disclosure was received that met the criteria, an investigation would be undertaken, and a report would contain recommendations and corrective actions.
The latest school district report notes the number of disclosures received was one, and the number of investigations that commenced because of disclosures was one.
However, for privacy reasons, further details including the nature of a finding of any wrongdoing is not available, as well as the corrective actions taken or reasons why corrective actions were not taken.
