Chartered Professionals in Human Resources Act coming into effect June 1
Human resources professionals in Manitoba will gain legal recognition and accountability as a self-regulated profession starting next month.
This development follows the implementation of The Chartered Professionals in Human Resources Act, which is set to take effect on June 1.
“Self-regulation is provincial legislation that gives CPHRs the authority to uphold best HR practice in Manitoba workplaces,” said Chartered Professionals in Human Resources (CPHR) Manitoba.
“With self-regulation, the CPHR designation has become a stronger and clearer seal of trust. The public, employers, and employees can be confident that CPHRs in Manitoba workplaces are held to the highest standard of HR practice in the country.”
The act—which received royal assent in 2023—also introduces a formal complaints process, granting the public the right to file complaints against HR professionals. These cases will be reviewed by a newly established Inquiry Committee, and investigation outcomes will be published to enhance transparency.
Public registry of HR professionals
CPHR Manitoba is also required to maintain a public registry of all active members, as mandated by the legislation. The registry will include each member’s name, designation status, professional address, and registration date. Members must ensure their profiles are complete and accurate by June 1, with address fields now mandatory.
