President Donald Trump’s politicized Department of Justice has abandoned major white-collar prosecutions in favor of waging legal war against Trump’s perceived political enemies. But a White House whistleblower from Trump’s first term says there will be no way to hide Trump’s lawfare from investigators when he leaves office — no matter how much paper he shreds.
“[T]he Trump administration is not hunting fraud. It’s hunting down its enemies with anything it can find. ‘Fraud’ just happens to be the easiest label to apply,” said former U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) analyst Miles Taylor.
Trump’s DOJ used “welfare fraud” as the “thinly veiled pretext” to launch a massive political shakedown in a state that Taylor points out is led by Democrat Tim Walz, who dared to challenge Trump for the White House in 2024. Before it was halted by a federal judge, Trump’s DOJ tried to investigate Walz for allegedly impeding the president’s immigrant crackdown.
“The true nature of Trump’s ‘anti-fraud’ plans came into view last year, as the White House pursued retribution against New York Attorney General Letitia James, the woman who won a nine-figure civil fraud judgment against Trump,” said Taylor. “In September, the president publicly demanded on social media that “JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED, NOW!!!” Weeks later, a former White House aide indicted James for alleged ‘mortgage fraud.’”
