Iberville Parish President Chris Daigle expressed anger over allegations the Nottoway Plantation owner made in a lawsuit filed last week in 18th Judicial District Court.
The suit — filed almost one year to the day a massive fire destroyed the antebellum mansion — alleged “gross negligence” on the part of the parish government, Plaquemine Fire Department and Safe Home Monitoring.
In a post on his social media page Sunday, Daigle said he looked forward to “proving these FALSE accusations wrong in court."
He said it appeared the owners are trying to place blame elsewhere “rather than accept responsibility for their own negligence by failing to secure property insurance on a historic landmark.”
“They should be arrested for that!” Daigle said.
The fire began about 2 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2025. The blaze persisted nearly 24 hours and destroyed one of the state’s best known and last remaining antebellum homes.
