MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WISN) - A Milwaukee man wrongly accused of plotting to assassinate the president has been released from Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody.
Ramon Morales-Reyes, 54, walked out of the Dodge County Jail Thursday after his family posted the $7,500 bond.
ICE agents had arrested the Mexico native in Milwaukee in May after he was accused of writing a letter plotting to assassinate the president. Though cleared of those allegations, Morales-Reyes had remained in ICE custody at the Dodge County facility until his release.
A Chicago judge granted Morales-Reyes the $7,500 bond earlier this week. His family raised the money and secured his release.
“It is clear Ramon is not a dangerous person at all,” said Cain Oulahan, Morales-Reyes’ attorney, on June 10. “It’s been over 30 years since he had any minor incidents. He’s a responsible husband and father, hard worker, someone who contributes to our community, and I think it’s clear.”
Morales-Reyes is scheduled for another immigration hearing next month.
