In Rudy Giuliani defamation case, lawyer battles civil 'death penalty' - USA TODAY

WASHINGTON – Shaye Moss, a Georgia election worker, wiped away tears Tuesday as she told a federal jury she received a tsunami of messages accusing her of treason, calling her a thug and targeting her with racist abuse because of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani's false claims she committed election fraud in 2020.

“I was afraid for my life," Moss said. "I literally felt like someone going to come and attempt to hang me and there’s nothing that anyone will be able to do about it."

Moss and her mother Ruby Freeman are suing Giuliani for up to $43 million for defaming them with bogus accusations they stole votes and flooded the system with illegal ballots while counting votes in Atlanta’s State Farm Arena on election night.

U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell has already ruled that Giuliani defamed them. The jury trial that began Monday will determine how much Giuliani owes the women in damages.

But the man formerly known as "America's Mayor" may not be good for it.
