Infosys layoffs: Karnataka labour department finds no law violation - The Economic Times

A team led by additional labour commissioner (industrial relations) G Manjunath, on orders of labour minister Santhosh Lad, visited the two campuses of Infosys in Mysuru and Bengaluru, and vetted the documents related to the 'hiring'and information from Infosys.

Infosys has not violated any labour laws, according to an interim report by the Karnataka labour department submitted to the state government reviewing the recent terminations by the company. The department is expected to file its final report in about a week, along with a copy to the Union labour department.

"We have not found any violation of labour laws in our inspection at Infosys...There was no employee and employer relationship between them in the first place. They were not even given appointment letters for them to be called employees. They were trainees for three months who were paid stipends and were part of the apprenticeship programme," confirmed a government official.

"The government cannot intervene in the selection process of any company. We have collected all the information in detail from Infosys and an interim report has been submitted. We will submit the final report by March 4 or 5," the official said.
