Investment Firm Employee With Long Covid Sues for Disability Pay - Bloomberg Law

An MFS Investment Management employee experiencing significant fatigue and shortness of breath after his bout with Covid-19 in March 2020 filed a federal lawsuit seeking long-term disability benefits from Lincoln Life Assurance Co. of Boston.

Matthew Hayward, an enterprise risk management business partner for MFS, says Lincoln initially approved him for long-term disability benefits after his post-Covid symptoms rendered him unable to continue working. Hayward says Lincoln improperly terminated these benefits in April 2021 without properly considering the “non-exertional” demands of his job, which he says include significant multi-tasking, detail-oriented business processes, and high-level communications.
