‘Irish woman’ accused of faking her own death to avoid drink driving charges - Sunday World

A 44-year-old woman who claimed to be an Irish citizen has been arraigned in a US court accused of faking her own death to avoid drink driving and shoplifting charges.

Shannon Elizabeth Wilson, from Plymouth in Massachusetts, is alleged to have made series of false claims to law officials in a bid to avoid criminal charges between 2022 and 2023.

Her alleged lies include claims that she had terminal brain cancer, that she had children in Italy and that she was an Irish citizen.

At one point, she is said to have told police that she had entered a hospice for end of life care before then claiming she had died and sending them in a fake death cert.

However, just two months after she had supposedly died, Wilson was again arrested by a state trooper for “erratic driving.”

She then claimed her name was “Saoirse Madden-Stone” and she was an Irish citizen who was visiting from Ireland.

According to court documents, her lies were exposed when her daughter came forward and spoke to the police.

Wilson is charged with one count each of furnishing false identifying information, obstruction of justice, forgery, uttering of a public record, and failure to appear after release on bail. She could face up to ten years in jail.

“This is a defendant who was willing to fake her own death,” Plymouth County Assistant District Attorney Alex Zane told the court.

She appeared before Plymouth Superior Court on Tuesday where she was indicted on multiple charges.
