'Is he dead or alive?': Whereabouts of 'surprise' whistleblower Guteza still unknown - ABS-CBN

MANILA — Senators and Justice officials on Friday said the whereabouts of "surprise" whistleblower Orly Guteza remain unknown following his bombshell testimony before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee tagging high-ranking lawmakers in alleged kickback scheme.

Guteza, who claims to be a former staff of resigned Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co, earlier testified in a Senate hearing that he delivered suitcases of money to the homes of Co and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

During the resumption of the Blue Ribbon probe on Friday, Sen. Erwin Tulfo asked the Department of Justice if they had any idea where Guteza is.

"Nasaan na po si Guteza? Because yung testimony nya po napakalaki, lahat po tayo nagimbal dito. So we want to find out if he is he okay, where is he at. Is he still alive or dead? Tulfo said.

Prosecutor General Richard Anthony Fadullon then said that Guteza never made his way to the DOJ.

"The DOJ not in any position to to ascertain the whereabouts of Mr. Guteza. The DOJ never had any interaction with him after that particular testimony, no representation made in his interest being [included in the Witness Protection Program] or granted any protection," Fadullon said.

Following Guteza's Senate appearance last month, lawyer Petchie Rose Espera denied notarizing or signing his affidavit.

Legal expert Egon Cayosa said Espera could file a case of perjury, introducing fraudulent evidence and use of a fraudulent public document against Guteza.
